Sheldon Lavin is the owner of OSI Group, LLC. He has served as the company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer since the late 1970’s. He started his professional career in the banking industry where he was an investor and consultant. He first became acquainted with OSI Group when the company, then called Otto & Sons, was trying to acquire a loan in order to build a new processing facility. The facility was needed because McDonald’s Corporation wanted them to be one of their four main suppliers of fresh beef patties. Sheldon Lavin was brought in as a consultant for Otto & Sons to obtain the loan, a transaction which he successfully accomplished.
As part of the condition of the loan, the bank requested that Sheldon Lavin take an ownership interest in Otto & Sons. At first, he refused as that wasn’t part of what he did as a consultant. He did, though, make an agreement with the Otto family that he could take part ownership of the company later on. It was in 1975 that he took part ownership in the company and became a Partner of Otto & Sons when the company started looking to expand into international markets. McDonald’s asked him to join the company full-time, a request he honored.
The company, now named OSI Group, expanded its position in both the domestic food processing market as well as throughout Europe. In the early 1990’s, Sheldon Lavin took the controlling interest in the group when he bought the shares in the company that were sold by one of the sons of the company’s founder. Eventually, the other son sold his shares to Sheldon Lavin as well and he gained full ownership over the company. During this time, he started rapidly expanding OSI Group’s operations into Asia as well as further expanding in Europe.

The blocks of anger
There are many building blocks to anger. We often times we go through the anger and then feel ashamed afterward. The only reason we feel ashamed is because we have not addressed the direction of the anger. We have not addressed who or what is making us angry on the inside. This is just one of the many blocks we discuss at the center.
No one is going to behave the way we expect them to 100% of the time. Our expectations are part of the problem. We often times get angry at ourselves and blame the other person. This is part of what causes us to be biased or prejudiced towards certain people. We all live with judgment every day. It is this judgment that causes us to be angry.

Getting to the route of our anger is part of the solution. Certain people come into our lives for a reason. They are there to expose our own anger and aggressiveness. Recognizing this is part of the healing process. Sometimes the person we are disgusted by is ourselves. It takes a third party coming in to show us this.
Anger is a human emotion and a part of life. We can reduce our anger greatly by figuring out “who we are truly mad at”.

Another step that he recommends is offering office spaces that are quiet. He states that when there is too much going on at the work place, then external interferences are added, the place becomes too chaotic for productivity.
The other recommendation that he makes is that one should create a workplace that is focused towards interacting with the people. He states that when you engage your staff more, they feel that sense of belonging and that the simple act of talking to them can lower employee turnover. It is from these interactions also that you will get insights into the issues that could be affecting the employees and the possible practical solutions to the same issues. The closer you are to your workers, the more productive they will be.

Instead of ending its fundraising campaign it has decided to increase its expectation to 50 million dollars. Recently it has been able to make over $135 million for its project which is the construction of a pavilion and a bridge along with educational, rehearsal spaces, offices and dining areas. These causes include civic leadership, scholarships and also the arts.
